Day 1: Calgary, Alberta - Tour Begins
Your tour begins in the cosmopolitan city of Calgary.
Day 2: Calgary - Banff
This morning, leave Calgary behind as you head into the wondrous Rockies. Travel through the prairies of Alberta to the Kananaskis Valley. Make a visit to a local ranch for some leisure time. Play a game of horseshoes, take a line dancing lesson and embark on a wagon ride* to view some buffalo. Then, enjoy a traditional Albertan barbeque with beautiful views of the mountains in the background. Later, arrive in the town of Banff and settle in at The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Relax during a three night stay at the famed “Castle in the Rockies.” Today breakfast and lunch will be included.
Day 3: Banff - Yoho National Park - Banff
Begin your day with a trip to Yoho National Park, named by the Cree (using their expression for “awe”). See the Spiral Tunnels cut through the mountains during the railroad’s development and learn about Canada’s train system. Next, enjoy a visit to Fields, a cozy town known for its charm, nestled in the grand Canadian Rockies. Later, travel along Kicking Horse River to visit the Natural Bridge. Discover how this amazing limestone rock formation came to be. Continue your journey along the river and take some time to explore spectacular Emerald Lake, named for the vibrant green color of its water. This evening it’s Diner’s Choice.…tonight your dinner is included and you’ll choose the perfect spot from a “menu” of Banff’s great restaurants. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.
Day 4: Banff
Start your day with breathtaking views of Banff’s Sulphur Mountain. Ride a gondola to the summit and enjoy breakfast as you look out over the town and the valley. Later, enjoy a visit to a local ammonite specialist to learn about this rare gemstone found only in Alberta. Next, set off on a scenic drive through Banff that features the powerful Bow Falls and impressive Hoodoos – known as the “Land of the Sleeping Giants.” During an afternoon at leisure, perhaps you’ll take a stroll through Banff’s delightful downtown, stopping at some of its chic boutiques or cafes. Today breakfast will be included.
Day 5: Banff - Icefields Parkway - Jasper
Today you’ll journey along the unforgettable Icefields Parkway. Waterfalls, rushing rivers, glacial peaks, imposing cliffs and snowcapped peaks paint the breathtaking canvas! Reflect on this inspiring landscape at Peyto Lake, a turquoise glacier-fed treasure. Enjoy a stop at the Athabasca Falls and marvel at its sheer beauty and power. At the Columbia Icefield, ride** across a mass of glacial ice over 1,000 feet thick – the largest accumulation of ice south of the Arctic Circle. As you continue down the parkway, be on the lookout for bears, furry marmots and stately elk. This afternoon arrive in the town of Jasper. This evening enjoy a “Taste of Alberta” dinner complete with several choices featuring various Alberta products and special recipes that highlight the cuisine in the province. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.
Day 6: Jasper - VIA Rail
Begin your day with a trip to the dramatic Maligne Canyon, one of Jasper's most spectacular landmarks. Here, enjoy breakfast*** against the backdrop of the picture-perfect sparkling waters of Maligne Lake, the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies. Next you may choose to embark on an optional cruise highlighting the beauty of Spirit Island. Return to Jasper with leisure time to explore this lovely town. This afternoon, board VIA Rail’s The Canadian to continue your journey through the majestic Canadian Rockies. Travel in a timeless manner as you are rocked to sleep in your private accommodations. The train whisks you past the peaks of the Monashee Mountains and the stunning sight of Pyramid Falls cascading down Mt. Cheadle. Relax in the Dome car and experience stunning 360-degree views of the glistening glaciers of the Albreda Icefields. On a clear day you might catch a glimpse of Mt. Robson – the highest peak of the Rockies. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.
Day 7: VIA Rail - Vancouver
Enjoy a lovely hot breakfast in the dining car before arriving in the vibrant city of Vancouver. Enjoy a sightseeing tour beginning at Stanley Park, Canada’s renowned urban rainforest. Meet a member of the Stanley Park Ecological Society and learn about the Young Naturalist program supported by the Collette Foundation, as well as other conservation and preservation efforts. Visit Chinatown – one of the largest in North America – and explore its waterfront. Next, visit Gastown, a turn-of-the-century town comprised of pubs, art galleries, boutiques, and its world-famous steam-powered clock, which is perhaps the most photographed subject in all of Vancouver. This evening, celebrate your adventure during dinner at a local restaurant. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.
Day 8: Vancouver - Depart for Home
Today you will depart for home with a lifetime of memories.
