This special Group Tour takes visitors to discover some of the most impressive historical, cultural and natural sights of China, including the Great Wall and the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Terracotta Warriors of Xian and the Panda Conservation Centre in Chengdu.
Panda Conservation Work
£100 per person
A unique chance to spend a short time supporting the Panda Conservation Centre’s work in protecting these endangered
creatures. Involvement may include:
• Helping to feed the pandas fresh bamboo and natural foods
• Lending a hand with washing the pandas with cool water (during main summer months only)
• Assisting with the cleaning of the enclosure
£20 is donated to the World Wildlife Fund to support their essential conservation work
Days 1-2 : Fly to Beijing
Fly overnight to Beijing, China's capital city.
Day 3 : Forbidden City & Temple of Heaven
Stroll through Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the treasure filled Forbidden City, which has the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China. We also visit the unique Temple of Heaven. Our evening meal includes the local delicacy, Peking Duck.
Day 4 : Great Wall & Summer Palace
Walk on the Great Wall to appreciate 2,000 years of historical significance whilst admiring the panoramic views. The Great Wall is China's most iconic attraction, which stretches over 4,000 miles from the Shanhaiguan Pass on the east coast to the Gobi Desert in the west. Also tour the exquisite Summer Palace and see a fascinating Chinese Acrobatic show in the evening.
Day 5 : Fly to Xian
Fly to Xian, the former ancient capital and visit the Shaanxi Museum which is home to thousands of priceless relics. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Shui Jiao dumpling meal followed by a performance of Tang Dynasty dancing.
Day 6 : Terracotta Warriors
Visit one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th century – the Terracotta Warriors. The figures were created over 2,000 years ago to accompany Emperor Qin Shihuang into the afterlife. Later fly to Chengdu.
Day 7 : Grand Buddha of Leshan
Travel to Leshan to visit the Grand Buddha, the world’s largest stone-carved Buddhist statue. We take a short boat trip to view the statue from the river. Return to Chengdu, visiting the old town of Huanglongxi enroute. Sample a delicious Sichuan meal in the evening.
Day 8 : Panda Conservation Centre
Visit the famous Panda Conservation Centre to see these charismatic animals being reared in wooded surroundings reminiscent of their natural habitat. Later, stroll along the ancient Jinli Street.
Day 9 : Fly Chengdu to UK
Fly to the UK, arriving home the same or following day.
